For Women’s International Day (8th March), we are celebrating some of the incredible women who work for us at NEP Bow Tie.

Lauren Coombs

I came into the Broadcast industry by chance 11 years ago, and it was fascinating to see the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to get to the final output and learn how it all comes together.  

Now coming into my 12th year with NEP, and holding the position of Director of Operations, I still thoroughly enjoy being a part of the industry and what it has to offer.

I oversee the day-to-day running of the business, supporting the contracts we hold and the teams on site, financial budgets and targets and future planning. I have managed change across the business, including supporting the successful delivery and implementation of technology projects such as camera systems, sound systems, disaster recovery systems and planning, supporting our high-profile government managed services contracts. I also lead our four ISO standards across the business, managing the adoption and upkeep throughout our operational teams and annual external audits.

I would encourage more women to explore the opportunities the Broadcast industry can offer both technically and non-technically. It really is a great profession to be a part of and build your career with great people, plus the satisfaction of getting to be part of amazing (and historical) events along the way.

Zahrah Sheikh

I recently started at NEP Bow Tie as a Multi-Skilled Operator. I got the opportunity, an interview through a Get Hired event with Prince's Trust. From the interview stage I knew that I wanted to work here, and I feel so lucky that I got the chance to. It's been incredible working and learning here, all my work colleagues have been very welcoming and helpful. NEP Bow Tie has given me a second chance -- a place to grow and build a career and I feel so happy. I'm looking forward to what I'll learn next.

Kerry McCarthy

I have worked for NEP Bow Tie for a year and a quarter and since joining I have been involved in lots of different areas of the business, which makes my role here varied and exciting.

One of my biggest achievements has been putting together an ISO presentation pack which was enrolled companywide for training.

I have more recently been given the additional responsibility of "Training Coordinator" as we have taken on three new starters, two of which are from The Prince’s Trust. My efforts have been to ensure I provide focus and direction to the fast-track training program we have put in place. I check in with them on a weekly basis to provide support, motivate and empower them to achieve the expectations set. I offer a safe space to speak honestly and openly and look to see if we can encourage them in any other way to achieve their goals.  

Helen Goodson

I was recently employed with NEP Bow Tie and am now coming up to my ninth week with the company as a Multi-Skilled Operator. This means that I'm given the chance to broadcast high-level committee meetings. It has been an exciting opportunity to work here, everyone has been very welcoming and supportive. My training program is now coming to an end, with the great help of not just my buddy, who has been with me through my training, but the whole team here at Bow Tie. It has been a bit nerve-wracking becoming part of a company that does such interesting work, and to such a high standard, but I'm looking forward to continuing with my work here and to keep on improving.

Amber Rumble Howard

I am a new starter to the company, and this is now my ninth week after joining NEP Bow Tie. I have had intense committee training over the past seven weeks, which I have loved as everyone has been so helpful and friendly! I am looking forward to progressing with my learning and expanding my career knowledge.

Emily Rumble Howard

I am the Service Support Coordinator fielding calls in the office, referring them to the relevant member of staff to be resolved. I organise the weekly roster for one of Bow Tie’s larger teams and am always keen to suggest innovative new ways of being efficient and reactive by responding to live situations. My day-to-day entails various activities such as running the Service Desk, printing for the galleries, logging and updating tickets, routing the BT lines and much more as we continue to improve the daily delivery for our clients.

Michelle Rivas

I have been working for NEP Bow Tie for two years now. I started as a Production Coordinator, dealing with administrator duties while also supporting the directors at a time where there was a lot of hybrid work going on. Since then, I have been trained on our Broadcast Support desk and am now a Service Support Coordinator, continuing with my day-to-day admin tasks, while also providing service support to our clients. I am enjoying learning more about broadcasting and grateful to NEP for encouraging me on this journey.

Jeremina Akrofi-Daniels

It’s been great to see an increase of women in the team over the last few months. I was given the responsibility of assisting in training the new starters on how to use the systems, primarily for committees.

It was important not only to show them how we operate but help provide some understanding to the procedures that take place and why it is necessary. Working with enthusiastic new starters who have a great aptitude for learning and retaining information has ensured that within a short space of time they are near enough ready to take on some of the new challenges on their own.
